Still staying in good old Missouri, we are headed to the Boulevard in the Clayton area of Saint Louis. Our next coffee shop:
Deer Creek Coffee
We have many more in tow with us today, as my boyfriend’s family has tagged along on our coffee shop Monday! It was nice having some more company along to show them a glimpse of our Monday process.
After a long day kayaking and paddle boating, we were happy to find this cheery (and air conditioned) place. In an pricey shopping area, the first word I thought of when I walked in was “open”. Very airy, very expanse, high ceilings and lots of seating.
Paintings hung on the wall, some for sale, and me and my boyfriends family sat in the corner, natural light coming in through the large windows.
A chalkboard presented their large selection (which I noticed is starting to be a common occurrence in our coffee shops). Coffees, smoothies, tea, sandwiches, crepes, salads, I felt like the menu just went on and on. The kitchen where they prepared the coffee and food was one of the largest we have been to so far. That’s why, from the photos, the sit down area is almost more restaurant set up than cafe.
I got the turmeric ginger chai. It was the drink of the month, presented in big letters in front of the store. So of course, I had to try it. I know…. me, not getting coffee?! I must have lost my mind…. but a the flavor combination of turmeric and ginger intrigued me.
First taste, it had a little bit of a kick. You got the nice spicy notes of a ginger but also the punch of peppery turmeric. It was extremely refreshing and invigorating on this scorching day. My boyfriend, the strict chai latte drinker, actually didn’t mind it either. My boyfriend’s family got some smoothies, which they remarked were delicious, a perfect treat. The barista was very kind, splitting up the smoothie into smaller cups for all to share. Gotta love good customer service!
I know this is going to be off of subject a little, but I had to add…. Outside, there was a tiny little air conditioned dog house you could put your dog in while you wanted to run in and look at fancy couches at Crate and Barrel. Me, as a dog lover, thought this was a cool idea. Go Saint Louis and Deer Creek for implementing this!
So all in all, this is a great little spot to rest, recharge, and get some healthy food to get you back out to exploring the ritzy areas of Clayton.
Until next Monday. Where will we end up next?
