Another Monday, another coffee shop! Welcome back readers!
This morning we were thinking coffee shop Monday might not happen. In the night we were greeted by a huge storm which left the little town we are living in flooded. My boyfriend, ever so determined, like a captain on a ship, sailed our Chevy Colbalt through the flooded streets and landed us in Saint Louis again. This time, in their crowded strip, and one of the most popular neighborhoods called “The Delmar Loop” and in The Loop, our next coffee shop: Blueprint Coffee.
Blueprint Coffee was named the best coffee place in Saint Louis by Nomadlist.com, so we were always curious of what the place had to offer. Today was that day.
First impressions, very hip. Wooden paneling on the walls, lots of seating from high tops to even a standing area, vintage tables, open concept front counter, groups of people on their laptops, modern music playing through the speakers. The strong smell of coffee beans being roasted immediately hit you. That’s because, behind the scenes there was a huge black machine that was roasting the beans, which you could actually watch.
Unlike most of our coffee shops, this place did not have their menu out on full display, instead on a small clipboard in front of the register, so you could take it and maybe sit down and make your decisions. Oh and were there ever decisions to be made. The barista told me that their coffee is unique to them only, so to suggest just ONE drink for me to try would be too hard. Not to mention their coffees were from all over the world. They offered filtered coffees, espressos, floats, teas, and even some small food items. Not to mention, the presentations of the drinks was exciting too. Some came in beakers, some in traditional glass cups, some in mason jars. So what did I get? A float.
A “Affogato” to be exact. An espresso drink with vegan coconut ice cream on top. I really wanted to try their coffee, but I also wanted something cool since the sun was scorching on us that day. The thought of strong espresso and sweet ice cream really intrigued me… so that’s what I ordered.
First taste. Oh. My. Gosh!!!! The ice cream was delicious and creamy. The espresso, incredible. Strong and flavorful. When you combine the two, you get magic. The sweetness of the ice cream cut through the bitter espresso and made it a perfectly balanced drink. I couldn’t eat it fast enough. Could this be the best thing I’ve tasted at a coffee shop so far? Absolutely.
Childish Gambino blasting through the radio, I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be hard at work, and baristas were doing an incredible job making these gorgeous looking drinks, college students tapping away on their laptops. I felt completely at ease.
If you’re in The Loop, I would check this place out. Gives you a chance to relax, work, and try incredible tasting coffee. Enjoy the views, the coffee roasting right in front of you, and the extravagant smells. Tune in next week as we may be out of town for our next Coffee Shop Mondays adventure.
