Today, we take a dramatic change of scenery as we headed north to the Windy City: Chicago.

Me and my boyfriend decided to take a much needed road trip, see the sights and get a taste of the city life and explore what this vast place has in store for us. That’s why, instead of just one coffee shop Monday post, you’re going to get two! A double shot, if you will.

To choose just two coffee shops in Chicago was hard, considering we ran into one at almost every block, but our first one my boyfriend chose, as he stayed in the hotel attached to our next place.

DropShot Coffee & Snack Bar.

Located near the north side of Chi Town, this coffee shop is an extension of the sports themed hotel FieldHouse Jones.

The day was gloomy and cool, rain drenching the city on and off, and I was extremely tired after a long night of city hopping and rooftop bars. I needed a coffee and I needed it strong. I couldn’t get into this coffee shop fast enough!

Walking in, I saw my favorite thing, exposed brick! Me and my boyfriend often joke how many times I bring up exposed brick in any place we go into. If I was in some sort of House Hunter HGTV show, they would have a count of how many times I brought it up. Well this place had it, and I was instantly enamored. Plenty of seating was spread about, in fact, it even had bleachers, keeping with the sports theme. Trophies were hung along the wall, and an interesting art piece made of rackets hung from the ceiling. Sporty and cozy was the idea here.

The menu looked vintage with it’s lettering, and offered classic coffee drinks along with our first ever coffee shop to also have an alcohol selection and a happy hour! They had a wide selection of beers and wines, and offered a delicious looking bloody mary.

So what did I order? Being so tired I could barely keep my eyes open…. Coffee of course. A large cappuccino that packed four shots of espresso in it. I needed it, trust me. My boyfriend got a chai latte. We always appreciate a coffee shop that uses real glass cups instead of plastic, so we were pleased when our drinks arrived in pretty cups! My cappuccino even had some gorgeous latte art, which I realized was my first time actually seeing latte art in our coffee shop Mondays!

In our journey of firsts, I also ordered food for the first time on our Mondays. They had a nice breakfast menu and my stomach was screaming at me. I never get the chance to have a proper breakfast since I’m always rushing out the door in the morning, so I spoiled myself a bit with a smoked salmon bagel.

So verdict on our drinks, amazing. My boyfriend said his tasted like Christmas in a cup which always is a sign of a good chai latte. Mine was strong, delicious, and gave me that needed push for the rest of the day. Definitely some love and care is put into their coffee here. My bagel…. oh my gosh…. Smoked salmon, cream cheese, onion, cucumbers, that’s a match made in heaven. My stomach was happy.

So there we sat, drinking our coffee and taking in the city, debating if we should just pack our bags and live here forever. The city life was absolutely the life for us. This coffee shop and it’s pretty views, sporty theme, and good coffee, this was a little gem in this big city.

We only had a short time here and so much to cram in…. What is our next coffee shop? You’ll find out! Stay tuned.
